Our commitment to being a carbon neutral business

Since the early days of Pendo, my co-founders and I have taken small acts to reduce the environmental impact we have on the world around us. We started in a co-working space to share resources with other small companies. When we opened our own offices, we chose urban settings to make it as easy as possible for employees to walk, bike, or take public transit to work. We’ve always promoted composting and recycling, and provided reusable items instead of single-use plastic, all to reduce our footprint.

As we’ve grown and recently opened our soon-to-be LEED Gold-certified Raleigh headquarters, we are dedicating even more resources to sustainability. Today, on Earth Day, I’m excited to share that we are a carbon neutral business.

Last year, we began a partnership with Green Places, which enables companies to calculate their carbon footprint, set reduction goals, purchase carbon offsets, and easily report on their progress. Alongside dozens of other Green Places partners, we’ve participated in three carbon offset projects, planting trees in forests in Vermont and Alaska, and making solar power accessible in India.  We’ve also committed to annual audits of our footprint to maintain carbon neutral status and discover additional ways to reduce our footprint.

We recognize that, as we grow, so does our carbon footprint, and we must commit more resources toward reducing it. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it’s important to our employees to work for — and our customers to work with — a company that cares about the environment and is committed to combating climate change. And while we’re not at the scale to hire a chief sustainability officer, Green Places fills in that gap, enabling us to focus on our core mission, while they help us do what’s right for the environment.

Today, we challenge our employees and others to do more for the world around us. Join us in supporting Green Places’ Tiny Climate Acts campaign – bike to work, eat a plant-based meal, switch to a reusable water bottle, and log those acts here. Green Places will plant a tree for each tiny act submitted. Let’s all work together to make the world better for future generations.
