This is the third year Battery has issued the list, with rankings based on Glassdoor data. The list highlights 50 privately-held companies—all B2B cloud computing companies—where employees report the highest levels of satisfaction at work, according to employee feedback shared on Glassdoor. A second list highlights the top publicly-traded cloud companies to work for—Hubspot tops that list.

Our CEO and co-founder Todd Olson likes to quote Simon Sinek when he talks about company culture: “Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first.”
Maintaining that focus through two years of exponential growth has been incredibly exciting, and challenging. The Pendo team has tripled in size and expanded from our Raleigh headquarters into five global offices. We now serve more than twice the number of customers.
Though challenging, the key to managing this growth is the Pendo culture.
A lot of effort has been spent emphasizing Pendo’s core values and translating culture across locales and time zones. We’ve maintained a biweekly company-wide Town Hall and adjusted the content and logistics to account for our growing team. We’ve expanded our people team to cover employee experience and culture, and people development. We have a variety of cross-office affinity groups formed out of a diversity and inclusion initiative.
Importantly, Todd has remained accessible to all members of the team. He continues to participate in the interview process for nearly every role and conducts 90-day check-ins with all new employees. At least quarterly, he visits our teams in Israel and London, and monthly, those in San Francisco and New York.
According to Battery Ventures, the rankings highlight the broader trend of businesses increasingly turning to the cloud to run critical technology systems and software, instead of using on-premise systems. They also highlight the increasing importance of cohesive culture and employee happiness in running a successful business, said Neeraj Agrawal, a Battery general partner who specializes in cloud investing (and a Pendo board member).
“The private companies on this list have not only scaled their products, teams and business functions—but they’ve managed to scale culture,” Agrawal said. “We view these rankings as a key indicator of company health and longevity.”
A Glassdoor economic research study, as well as other third party studies, show that companies with high employee satisfaction often post stronger financial performance.
