On this week’s episode of Product Love, I sat down with MaryAlexa Divver. MaryAlexa is currently the Director of Product at Public. Public is an investing social network where members can own fractional shares of stocks and ETFs, follow popular creators, and share ideas within a community of investors.
How did MaryAlexa get into product management? It all started with her career at American Express — she admits it’s an unlikely spot to start a career in product, but she believes she was lucky. After six months, her business unit was transformed into a startup within American Express. She became a product owner to two web scrum teams, which led her to quickly learning product management. Instead of the traditional waterfall method of shipping updates two or three times a year, her team was shipping in two-week cycles.
MaryAlexa and her team are currently transforming the way we talk about money, and they’re also providing their users the right education to break down the barriers around the topics that are normally taboo.
In this week’s episode, we talk about the major differences between working at an enterprise and a hyper-growth startup, as well as the metrics that matter at Public.
